FEAR IS A FLAW IN FAITH
January 20, 2012
Abraham had a flaw of faith, in that he feared, and inturn took matters into his own hands, not once, but twice! Abraham said, "...surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife" (Genesis 20:11). The fear of death is worthy of note. In turn, due to fear, Abraham deceived both Paraoh and King Abimelech by saying his wife was his sister! Sarah his wife was a beautiful woman, and the king took her into his own harem (Genesis 20:2).
Sarah was returned by the King, to her husband, Abraham. As God's will provided for his plan, that through Abraham and Sarah a great nation would arise (Genesis 12:1-3).
In fear, Abraham took matters into his own hands. How often I have done the same. If we are honest, every human being on the face of the earth has dealt with the looming factor of fear at one time or another. The loss of a job, the bad economy, bad health, loss of protection, crime, loss of secuirty, fear of ridicule, can all produce a fear reaction within our spirit. And just like Abraham, we can be tempted to take matters into our own hands.
Faith in God and his word can conquer our fears. God has a plan for our life, just as he had a plan for Abraham and Sarah. As we place our trust in God, his plan will succeed. God's power is mighty, his providence great, protection follows us as we obey God's word. Living a life sanctified in purpose and truth, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are assured God's plan will succeed. Fear not for God is with you!
